Hotel Habita rooftop overlooking Mexico City

Just call me Carrie Bradshaw............or Vicki, whatever.
I wanted to call this post Sex and Mexico City, a little play on words from the hit TV series Sex and the City, that many of us know so well. Unfortunately, I soon realized that some of us are not so familiar with the show, or we are, but are taken off guard to see the word sex in their sister or daughter’s blog, that they are unable to make the proper connection, wondering if they should continue reading. Well, let me assure you that this post has nothing to do about sex. Simply, I had a fantastic night on the town two weekends ago that was so posh and involved so many from “high society” (for lack of better terminology) that I felt for a night that I was Carrie Bradshaw (main character on the show for those still not catching on), especially since all night I was thinking about writing about it later, as Carrie so often does on the show.

Hotel Habita during the day
My girlfriend Caroline from Spanish class, whom I believe I’ve mentioned before introduced me to a group called InterNations. Really, InterNations is just a social network of expats who find other expats living in the same foreign country as them and they get together and well….party. Seems shallow, but its quite brilliant. InterNations is an invitation only network and they try to only allow people to join who have global minds. Its not a group of foreign exchange students. In fact that night, I met a scientist, many embassaders and diplomats from different countries, a doctor, a model, and other business people, all of us transferred or voluntarily moved to Mexico City. Joining this group has been wonderful for me. Not only have I met 5 new fantastic and intelligent girls whom I’ve already hung out with numerous times since then I have also made some great

My new lady friends from Internations (Chile, Denmark, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia represented here)
contacts for work. Everyone is incredibly nice and willing to help you out in experiencing the best of Mexico, trading ideas of the best place to eat, cut your hair, volunteer, or go out dancing and not get harassed by the opposite sex (the answer to that one is the upscale gay bars). But what I’m most thankful for by Caroline introducing me to this group, is the humanitarian work that gets organized by some of the women in it. They shared with me some incredible experiences building homes, teaching literacy to children, providing vacines etc…and I have offered my free labor to this group as I have been eager to do some good work since I got here. Alot of these women have a ton of money; most are wives to some very wealthy Mexicans. I was told by one of the coordinators that if I can come up with a workable humanitarian project, the group would definitly fund it. This is exactly what I have been looking for. A group of people dedicated to helping others and a shit-ton of money to do it.

Danilo from Brazil and to the right organizes most of the InterNations events. The Jim Carey looking fellow to the left works in the Canadian Embassy.

black and white movies from Hotel Habita rooftop terrace
As for the party…WOW! It was on top of Hotel Habita in Colonia Polanco. This hotel is a modern minimalist design hotel. Fantastic. The party was on the roof top and it was phenomenal up there. White leather couches, walls lined with fireplaces, glass railings, and my favorite, the rooftop pool that winded its way through the crowd. I have never been to a party before where women are dolled up, men in suits, and yet someone is swimming by in a bikini. Cool. Ok, I lied, my real favorite, was the building beside us was a massive movie screen playing black and white films all night.

On the ride home I was in such a fantastic mood, Oscar and I stopped for a little photo sesh at my favortite piece of art along reforma avenue, the disco fin.
oh and by the way….april! i am so taking u to hotel habita when u come. we can drink margaritas and swim on the roof and get sunburnt…
